Caribbean Port-Folio:
Your go-to guide for what to see and do

There seems to be countless ports of call in the Caribbean, but when it comes to exploring ashore, we’ve narrowed it down to some tourist favourites.  Take a peek at our top 5 and jot down some notes…you won’t want to miss out.

Cozumel:

Parque Natural Chankanaab
cozumelLocated at the Chankanaab Lagoon on the south eastern part of the island, 5.5 miles from the town of San Miguel, this protected area has a body of water that is connected to the sea by an underground tunnel. Here you can visit the magnificent botanical gardens, which are comprised of various tropical plant species such as orchids, bamboo and 60 different palm varieties. In addition, you can catch a sea lion and exotic bird show or go on an unforgettable photo safari.

Reserva Ecologica Parque Punta Sur
Located on the island’s southern coast, 18 miles from the town of San Miguel, this reserve has virgin beaches and a wonderful jungle landscape featuring mangroves, marshes and dunes. Here you can go up to the top of the Punta Celarain lighthouse for an excellent panoramic view of the ocean and the mangroves that form part of the lagoon. You can also enjoy magnificent views on a tour bus ride or a nature excursion on a catamaran.

Grand Cayman:

grand cayman-blowholesEast End Blowholes
Located in Grand Cayman’s East End, the Blow Holes are worth a quick stop if you’re in the area. When the winds blow hard, crashing waves force water into caverns and send water skyward through holes in the rocks. If you’re patient, some good photos can be taken.

Stingray City
World famous Stingray City is Grand Cayman’s most well-known and popular attraction. Often referred to as ‘the world’s best 12-foot dive’, it is frequented by both snorkelers and scuba divers. These relatively tame creatures will swim right into your arms as they glide around you. Despite their frightening name, they are very gentle and won’t hurt you as long as you stay away from their tails.

San Juan:

Bacardi Rum Distillery
San Juan Aerial ViewThe largest rum distillery in the world offers free guided tours that include sample drinks. You’ll learn about traditional and modern rum-production techniques, as well as the history of the Bacardi family. The one-hour tour begins every half-hour.

Rio Camuy Cave Park
The extensive subterranean cave systems of Rio Camuy Cave Park are reportedly the largest in the western hemisphere. Here you can board open air trolleys, which twist and turn their way through a road carved out of verdant foliage before reaching the moss-lined entrance to the cave. A large opening at one end of the cave allows some light to filter through, creating beautiful photographic opportunities.

St. Maarten – Dutch / St. Martin - French

Border Monument
Bikers On BeachThis monument celebrates over 300 years of cooperation between the French and the Dutch. This agreement was decided when The Treaty of Concordia was signed on March 23, 1648 between the French and the Dutch. Based on the terms of the agreement, the island of Saint Martin was to be divided between the French Empire and the Dutch Republic and that the peoples of St. Martin shall coexist in a cooperative manner.

Bicycling
The hills on the French side of the island are perfect for mountain bikes.  Many rides are on- and off-road, usually dirt track, and of intermediate difficulty. It's always a good idea to go with someone who already knows the lay of the land.

St. Thomas:

Paradise Point
St. Thomas Aerial ViewHead out to Paradise Point for some of the best views of St. Thomas and the Virgin Islands. The St. Thomas Skyride is located just minutes from the cruise ship dock, directly across the street from the Port of Sale Mall. As one of the “must do” attractions in the Caribbean, the skyride takes you 700 feet above the town of Charlotte Amalie and carries 24 passengers every seven minutes along its eight tower ascent of Flag Hill. Once you “ride the view” to paradise point, you will be met with a stunning view of the town, the island, and the Caribbean.

Coral World Ocean Park
Take a journey that will be the highlight of your visit to the Virgin Islands. At Coral World Ocean Park, you’ll experience the beauty and magic of life under and above the Caribbean Sea. Stay dry while gazing into the ocean from 15 feet under in the Undersea Observatory with 360-degree views of fish and other sea creatures – the only way to see fish without getting wet. Swim with the sea lions, feed the stingrays or deep sea dive with an underwater Sea Trek.
